Often, we forgot to celebrate the stories people who are doing incredible work to better themselves, change their lives, and change the lives those surrounding them.
Often, we forgot to celebrate the stories people who are doing incredible work to better themselves, change their lives, and change the lives those surrounding them. We get so caught up in our own stories and hardships that those in need slip to the back burner, specifically people in the developing world.
For example, I saw through a trip to the Dominican Republic this summer women who worked in a bakery, running the business to provide for their families and helping give their children new opportunities. Some women even worked during the day and went to school in the evening, and I was inspired by the love and dedication I saw!
As a graphic design intern this summer, it was such a pleasure to use my ingenuity and design skills to create content that tells the incredible narrative of the individuals Healing Waters serves. While using my graphic design skills to craft numerous types of marketing material, I have learned how important it is to understand branding throughout the design process. Branding is important because it ensures I fairly represent others and communicate a consistent, clear message of hope to donors and supporters of our mission.
Working at Healing Waters has also taught me that representation matters. For the women we serve to see themselves or their community members portrayed in a dignified way that stirs hope in the hearts of others is crucial.
I have not only grown into a designer that has learned to appreciate the inspirational people we serve, but also, I have become an advocate and voice for inspiring women around the world! I hope you, too, will be their voice in whatever way you can.
